To cut down on some of the repetitive questions,
we present to you this page.
First, our number one problem is the fact that Nextel/Motorola does not
provide you with the drivers to allow your usb cables to work properly.
JUST BECAUSE YOU PLUGGED IT IN, DOES NOT MEAN IT SHOULD WORK!!! We feel
for a lot of you, but please understand, we did not create the cable,
and therefore your gripe should be with Motorola. Well with out further
ado...
USB SUPPORT
Q. Where can I obtain the USB drivers?
A. When using the iDEN USB cable with a Windows operating system, the
USB drivers may be obtained by following the instructions listed below.
(You must have WinZip to unzip the file)
- Go to the following download page: http://idenphones.motorola.com/iden/products/software/pcsftw_applications.jsp
- Download "iDEN Packet Data Applet " to your desktop
- Once it is downloaded, right click on packetdata.zip, and select
"Open with WinZip"
- Locate the USBinstallation.exe file and extract it to your desktop.
- Go back to the application and connect the USB cable, and use as
directed.
Please note: The drivers will support Windows 2000, Xp, and 98se "only"
Q. How do I properly install the USB cable?
A. The iDEN USB cable is currently supported by Windows 98 Second Edition
and Windows 2000.
IMPORTANT: Do not install the USB cable before running the installation
software. Connecting the cable could result in improper installation of
the software drivers.
- Go to the following download page: http://idenphones.motorola.com/iden/products/software/pcsftw_applications.jsp
- Download "iDEN Packet Data Applet " to your desktop.
- Once it is downloaded, right click on packetdata.zip icon and select
"Open with WinZip"
- Locate the USBinstallation.exe file within the WinZip window and
extract it to your desktop.
- Double click on the USBinstallation.exe file and follow the installation
instructions.
- When prompted by the application, power on your phone and connect
it to the USB cable and then connect the USB cable to the PC.
- The computer will now install the USB cable and drivers. Once completed,
you can begin to use the cable.
Please note: The drivers will support Windows 2000 Xp, and 98se "only"
Q. What if I receive the error message "No USB Drivers Installed"?
A. This error indicates that the USB cable has possibly been incorrectly
installed. To correctly install the USB cable:
- Unplug the USB cable from the PC.
- Go to the Control Panel of your computer.
- Under Modems, highlight the iDEN USB modem and click Remove.
- Now go to System/Device Manager/USB controllers. And make sure that
there is no unknown USB connections. If there is an unidentified USB
connection established in USB connection field, remove/uninstall it
by right-clicking the specific USB icon and selecting uninstall.
- Restart your computer.
- Power on your iDEN phone and connect it to the USB cable.
- Open the iDEN software application that you intend to use (Companion
Pro, iDEN Update, Packet Data Applet).
- Connect your USB cable to your PC. The New Hardware wizard should
now install the USB modem drivers to enable you to use the USB cable.
Q. What Windows applications currently support USB connections?
A. The iDEN USB cable is currently supported by Windows 98 Second Edition
and Windows 2000 platforms (which includes XP)
Q. Cannot get Win98 to work with the USB drivers?
A. You are behind 3 operating system versions and it's really time you
upgrade.
Q. Does my USB cable work with Win ME?
A. NO! For Win ME you must use a serial cable!!!!!!!
WINZIP SUPPORT
Q. How do i open your program?
A. You must have winzip on your computer, or some sort of an extraction
program. Most computers come with winzip, if you dont have it download
